Welcome to SA’s new performance car
magazine; driven by passion. The new
magazine is pumped with all the best of
the local aftermarket motoring scene,
and is one that is sure to get the
nitrous pumping through your veins. In
this issue we bring you a hot ice white
Ford Mustang, styled thanks to a bodykit
from tuning Guru’s Roush, and boosted by
a supercharger from the Whipple stable;
nailing the power figures up to the
570Hp mark. We all know Subaru’s are
quick, but none more than Martin Peter’s
WRX STi. This 2,5 boxer motor has been
treated to some exclusive engine bits,
and completely hammers the rolling road
with 371kw! A Mazda RX7 is a real
eye-catcher, and even better if it is
powered by a turbo’d Supra lump. Mario
Careri made sure his RX7 was still the
business, by turning a full 416,8kw on
the rear wheels. No issue would be
complete with a touch of mzanzi; and in
saying that let me introduce this
Cuban-infused topless E30 Beemer. Pimped
with a brass metallic paintjob, the
softest and neatest leather work, and an
earth-pounding Kicker install, this BMW
definitely raises the bar for all the
others. And finally, a MK1 Golf, filled
with the best that Cerwin Vega has to
offer. Be sure to get your hands on a
copy, you won’t want to miss out on
this!

Issue 2 of Max My Ride magazine is a
real power packer, perfect for your
reading X-tacy. On the cover we have a
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9, with
ultra exclusive imported engine bits
under the hood producing 350kw;
potentially making it number one of the
Most Wanted’s blacklist. The 1,6i Civic
Vtec was a pretty quick ride back in its
day, but now check out this example, a
baby Civic from KZN, packed with an
adult sized 2,2-litre Vtec mother
powerplant! The track scene has been
treated to an old-skool guttered out
Alfa Romeo GTV6, packing not one, but
two turbo’s under the bonnet; all thanks
to ECU guru Domingos. Castrol Edge have
been giving away quite a few hot rides
at each years Castrol Motorshow. A black
Chev Lumina is on offer this year,
stacked with a full Vibe sound install,
and a tuned V8 engine. The Toyota
Fortuner is a hot new SUV on the market,
but this MTX packed example, together
with its 22” Racing Hart Concepts rims,
adds a gangster feel to this Lenasian
local ride. With the best local content
in the country, could you even ask for
more?

Max My Ride issue 3 was where we set the
right tone for the aftermarket scene in
the country. On the cover we had what
has to be one of the fastest rides in
the country, a Lexus IS200 that has been
pumped up with the addition of a 2JZ
Supra engine packing a custom Borg
Warner T80 turbo. This piece of
machinery is capable of hitting the
1000hp marking with ease, and has enough
torque to ensure that passengers enter
wearing adult sized nappies! We took a
look at a rare Audi S2, owned by Audi
Club chairman, Rod Guinot. This
Vorsprung monster pushes the 400kw
reading on all four wheels every time he
takes it out. The sideways Soarer of the
owner of the Rock Raceway; Tim Stephens;
features a 1JZ lump under the hood and
screams around the bends. Mad Customs
had their VW Bug featured, which is
stacked with the best stuff from the
Rockford Fosgate stable. A Conquest with
a difference was another one of the
sound features, and believe you me; this
thing has some of the best bodywork
around and sound around! We covered all
the latest events such as the Gauteng
Motorshow, the BMW track day, the Audi
versus GTi club day, and even the IASCA
world record event at the Joburg Easter
Festival. We upped our game by adding in
a competition whereby a R30 000 makeover
of your ride could be won it’s easy and
simple so get hold of an issue to start
entering! With so much variety and
coverage, why would you wanna buy
anything other than Max My Ride
magazine?

Check out the last months offering from
Max My Ride magazine. We featured a hot
RX7 from the land of the rising sun
capable of smacking out close onto
450kw; a track infused supercharged BMW
M3 build with adjustable cambers and the
works; a carbon infused Vtec with
genuine JDM bits and pieces; an
Earthquake pounding turbocharged Toyota
RXi; and finally another older Mazda RX7
that is quickly climbing the ranks of
the national drift series together with
owner and driver, Rudi van den Berg. On
the events side of things, we pulled
through to do full coverage of the
Zooped Up Gauteng crew's first sound
off; the Crazy Corsa Crew dyno day all
the way in the cape; the SEAT charity
event; and finally, the advanced driving
day hosted by the Twincam Club. Tech
articles included a full test on whether
or not cone filters actually work on a
standard naturally aspirated ride; as
well as the investigation into the
various ports available for the bass
heads. This issue is definitely not one
to be missed, so check it out!

Issue
5 |

|
Issue 5 was a killer as we featured some
top rides like a 2-door WRX STI packed
with the best of Apexi and Garrett, and
with over 283,2kw at a mere 1bar of
boost; you know that this track devil IS
all talk AND all action! A Toyota Supra
is a hot ride by any account, but when
you see this Pieter’s drift example
slamming all 349kw down on the tar while
going sideways, it’s like a dream come
true for any motor head. The sound fans
got a double dosage this month as we
featured a two-tone Golf MK4 stacked
full of Rockford goodies, while the
other feature was a pimped out mini by
Creative Rides, which features a full
Lightning Audio system, together with a
massive LCD and X-Box hiding in the rear
for some gaming fun. Lastly, we check
out Neolien Botes whom has a hectic
passion for cars. This lady has not one
but two four-wheel drive examples; like
her Audi RS4, as well as her late
brother’s rare and legendary Ford Escort
Cosworth. The best events were shown,
including the Legend’s dyno day at Snail
Conversions; Rapid Sound and Security’s
first sound off and dyno day event; The
Castrol Extreme Auto Show 2009, and
round 2 of the SADC Slidemaster’s
drifting contest. On the tech side of
things we checked out how a performance
exhaust can actually be beneficial to a
ride. We used Anton’s VW Golf 1600i, and
with the aid of Wildcat and SAC, tested
out various systems to see what power we
could squeeze out. For the sound guys,
we installed a small SQ system into the
2007 Ford Fiesta, paying careful
attention of how to fit 6” driver’s into
the small speaker pod in the door. The
iconic ride for this month was the Mazda
RX7 SA/FB, the first of the line of
legends. In the RC Drift section, our
local drift nut, Dario, showed us all
how to add on a few extra’s to a new RC
ride; and damn does the “Max My Ride”
mini drift monster look sweet. This was
by far one of the best issues so far, so
make sure to get your hands on a copy! |

Issue
6 was a real one-of-a-kind. We featured
some top rides such as Gerald’s Wheel
and Tyre’s BMW e30 rotary-powered drift
monster. This ride is not only a good
looker, but packs a wicked sound system
to go hand in hand with the scream of
the 13B. Remus Exhausts is a well known
brand overseas; and taking one look at
the owner of the brand’s local
distributor’s super sleek Toyota Supra
makes you feel as if it was a fully
international import. We checked out the
inner workings of Team Sasol Subaru and
their fast Subaru WRX STI hatch; while
on the sound side, we took a look at
Grant Botha’s sound quality Infinity
infused Ford Focus. The Women’s section
was filled with a lady that loves the
sound game so much, that she turned her
Tata Indica into a Pink Panther packed
with top audio products.
We covered various events such as the
Battle of the Clubs which was held at
the newly revamped ODI Raceway; SOCSA’s
dyno day; the Fast and Furious show held
at uShaka Marine World in Durb’s; and
not forgetting the Battle of the Sexes
drag racing meet at Midvaal Raceway. On
the tech front, we finished off the
exhaust mods on Anton’s Golf MK1 1600,
with the final power figures knocking up
93kw on the fly; frikkin strong for only
a pipe and branch. The sound game was
handled by the setting up of the SQ
install that was fitted into Clucky’s
Fiesta, and with a final score of 24/30
using pink noise, you gotta see it to
believe it! |

Issue
7 |
 |
Issue 7 was filled with some top notch
motoring ecstasy. First up we had a Golf
MK1 that was putting out serious
power-induced smoke onto the front tyres
thanks to a healthy 2-litre 16-valve
turbo’d lump hiding under the bonnet.
Melvill Priest is a well known name in
the local track scene, so we decided to
check out his 240kw Audi A4 track demon,
as well as checking out the inner
workings of his team of technicians.
This team goes by the name of Team VMP
Motorsport and is haded-up by none other
than Vic Maharaj, who is seen on
Supersport’s Formula 1 show. Whilst we
were there we decided to ask him a few
questions on how he got into the
industry. In the drift rings, we scoped
out a twin turbo’d Chev Lumina, that has
also seen some stroking work done to it
enough to put down 408kw on to the rear
wheels, at only 0,4bars; and that’s
without the extra 120hp NOS that is
still to be connected! On the sound side
of the tracks, we featured a mint Nissan
300ZX, that not only has the looks, but
also has one mother of an audio system
in the back thanks to Rockford Fosgate
and Lightning Audio. To show off some
female talent, we showcased Belinda
Havenga, a growing presence in the local
drag racing scene, and her Chev
V8-powered Ford Sierra. On the events
side, we pulled through to the CTSR
Crew’s dyno day in the Cape, the Opel
Owner’s Club Gerotek event, the finals
of the SADC Drifting competition, as
well as the Women’s day event which was
held at Zwartkops. Dario showed us all
about the latest “missiling” craze
that’s hitting the RC sector, as well as
giving us the full low-down on Mark
Kardas, AKA: TK-Sp3cialiST. If you
missed this issue, you’d better call us
to get hold of a copy; believe me, you
won’t be disappointed! |

Issue 8 of Max My Ride magazine was a
real treat for those who crave the
modding scene. First up on the list of
feature rides was a BMW M3 e46 model,
that has not been turbocharged, but
rather, packs it’s punch with an Active
Autowerkes supercharger; equalling the
opposition with 390kw on a mere 0,7bar
boost! We checked out SA’s sexiest VW
Scirocco owned by Khalid Hassim; as well
as scoping out Dorne Britz’s new drift
machine, a 400hp Mazda RX7. Fareed’s
Customising have built up one of the
meanest MK1 Golf’s around, which is
stacked with top audio bits; while the
women’s section is taken up by Wilmarie
Janse van Rensburg, and her track
destined MK1. On the events side of
things we pulled through to the BMW Car
Club day at Kyalami, the King of Speed
event at ODI Raceway, and the second
instalment of the Battle of the Sexes
series held at Midvaal. We went through
to Van Der Linde Developments to learn
more about cylinder heads, while XTC
Audio showed us all how to install an
equaliser. Dario Schiava taught us all
about the various types of shocks
available for RC drift cars, as well as
showcasing Edge, one of the top RC
drifters in the ranks. If you didn’t get
your mits on a copy or two, phone us up
and we’ll sought you out! |

 |
Issue 9 of Max My Ride magazine was
where we turned everything inside out.
On the cover we had a Honda Civic Vtec
which has been granted the full makeover
in the cosmetics department, wheel
department, and even going as far as to
throw in a container full of imported
parts; not forgetting the turbo’d lump!
We had a double dose of Nissan Skyline
action from the father and son team of
Dez and Shane Gutzeit; while the other
track feature on hand was a 600hp Toyota
Hilux bakkie which will soon be one of
the greatest inclusions into the track
racing events side of things in SA. We
scoped out a neat Nissan Silvia drift
ride from the deep East Rand; while on
the sound side we checked out a Dodge
Nitro courtesy of Creative Rides. We
interviewed Gugu Zulu, the fastest
brother in Africa; and on the women’s
side, we checked out SOCSA’s PR Chick,
Nadia Singh, and her WRX. We checked out
some top events like the Cobra Club
track day at Zwartkops, as well as the
Wicked Obsession sound off in Edenglen.
On the tech side, Clucky’s ride got a
tint, and we show you the full breakdown
on how it’s done; while another mod to
his car is the sound deadening of his
Fezz’s boot area. This issue was one of
the best so far, so if you don’t have
one already, give us a call and get your
paws on a copy! |

 |
In this issue we checked out a BMW 335i
that has been given an added advantage;
with the inclusions of a new paint job,
some carbon bits, and a few trick bits
under the bonnet; resulting in just over
300kw of power! We also featured a Golf
MK1 with genuine Porsche 928 rims, and a
300kw+ 1800 boosted lump. On the track
side of things we scoped out Leon
Loubser’s RGM charged E36 M3 track
demon, which is always in the top 5 in
pretty much any track days he takes part
in. The sound side had been spiced up
with two hot earth shattering rides. The
first, a Hummer H3 rolling on 26’s;
packing a mammoth punch thanks to the RF
brand, courtesy of the Mad Customs crew;
while the second, a Golf MK6 GTi, also
maintains street status with a Massive
install, thanks to the guys from Potent
Car Audio. The women’s section was
dominated by Cindy Evans-Finney; a lady
with a long history in historic racing,
and one of the fastest females in SA; no
doubt! We also had an exclusive
interview with “The Ginger”, Sias du
Plessis; of Gareth Cliff’s morning show
fame. The Iconic Rides section was
spiced up with the inclusion of one of
Audi’s most gifted hatch’s; the old spec
S3; while the RC side of things covered
an essential part of the RC drift world;
the diff. We pulled through to quite a
few events; including the Audi versus
Subaru skidpan day at Zwartkops; the
regional drift off at the Rock; and the
Toyz 4 Boyz car show which was hosted by
Creative Rides and IS Motorsport. This
issue was definitely not one to be
missed. Max My Ride; South Africa’s

11 |
 |
Issue 11 of Max My Ride really pushed
the boundaries; where we got hold of
some ultra special rides to shoot. First
up on the cover we had Edward
Cotterell’s Peugeot 206GTi; which with
its lumo-green paint job; and huge turbo
popping out the bonnet; is able to scare
most supercars into hiding; especially
when it puts down 250kw at 0,8bar boost;
and that’s without the massive shot of
NOS in the back! We scoped out Mano
Athanassiou’s Subaru WRX STi track
demon; which is packed full of imported
goodies; which enable all four wheels to
spin with 310kw and 590Nm! The sound
guys were well catered for here; where
we checked out the country’s loudest
heavy-weight bass boxing champion;
powered by Starsound and Cardio
Motorsport; while the other sound
inclusion is that of Don Rampersadh and
his Ford Focus ST; which not only has a
full install in the rear done by
Creative Rides; but also packs a healthy
235kw lump under the bonnet. On the
Women’s side we chatted to Devina Chetty
about here Renault Clio 3 Sport; which
has been pimped out via the guys from
Potent Car Audio. We also had a chat
with 5FM radio legend Sasha Martinengo.
We covered a host of events such as the
SuperStars V8’s and Vinyl’s at Kyalami;
the Rockmania event at the Rock Raceway;
and the IASCA finals; of which we have
the full results. This issue was a
killer; so if you didn’t manage to get
one; get hold of us right away and we’ll
hook you up! |

 |
If you missed out on issue 12, then you
missed out on a killer issue. On the
cover we had Gerhard Bekker’s imported
Honda Civic EG; which packs a huge 18”
Kicker sub; an X-Box; an array of amps;
a turbo’d engine; damn there’s just so
much done to this ride that I don’t even
have space to mention it all! We checked
out Tyrone Govender’s 650hp Nissan 350Z;
while on the drift side; we took a look
at Aubrey Hiles and his mean Nissan
200SX; which he actually let Clucky
drift just after the shoot! Marius
Knoesen’s Subaru track demon is
definitely a step above the rest; as it
packs out a healthy 347kw and 584Nm at
only 1,2bar; and on all four wheels!
Kyly Snell and her red-hot modified Ford
Fiesta ST took control of the Women’s
Section; while the local star this month
was none other than Jack Devnarain of
Isidingo fame. We featured a few events
such as the GTi Club dyno day held at
KAR Performance; the NASCAR-styled Free
State 500; as well as the MPH Top Gear
Live show. We explore what nitrous oxide
is and how it works, while Wayne Allan
explains the differences in wiring up a
subwoofer in either parallel or series.
RC man, Dario Schiava, introduced us to
the Crawler RC cars; and even gave us a
few pics of how these extreme machines
can climb up even the steepest of
terrains. If you didn’t get your hands
on this copy; drop us a call and see if
we can hook you up. |

13 |
 |
Issue 13 of Max My Ride was an issue
which really showcased some of the best
modifying in the country. First up on
the cover we had Desmond Bloem’s BMW
330i, which has been granted a pearl
lime spray job; a full customised
body-kit; as well as a huge custom sound
install in the rear; making it
definitely one of a kind. For the track
boys we get the low-down on Pieter
Zeelie’s new track toy; a Toyota MR2,
which many believe is powered by some
sort of forced induction as it flies
past many turbo’d competitors. This is
however not true as its potent 1800
naturally aspirated engine is merely
set-up the right way; and with a few
custom bits, the car performs
exceptionally well on pretty much any
track. Danie Jacobs has been building an
ultra neat Ford Cortina over the past
few years; and finally he is able to
showcase his new pride and joy. Not only
did he drop a large V8 under the bonnet;
he slapped on a set of Work wheels;
filled the entire car full of the top
Soundstream products in custom
enclosures; and gave the car a custom
metallic lime green spray-job;
transforming it into one of the most
customised cars I have ever laid eyes
on. A new contender to the Bass Boxing
ring is none other than Dr Decibel
himself; Jaco Pretorius. This man and
his team have put everything into the
build of their VW Golf. Lastly, we check
out a Ford Mustang Mach 1; owned by
Samantha Smith. As a tribute to her late
father; she got the car into showroom
condition; and filled it up with a stack
of Reference Audio goodies; thanks to
the guys from Quantum Sound. Our local
celeb section is headlined by ex-Bafana
Bafana goal-keeper; Andre Arendse. We
spent some time with this man and his
Chrysler 300C; as well as taking a few
shots against him as he stood between
the goal posts. We checked out the Opel
Owners dyno day event at Nascar; the
Ford record event at Phakisa; and round
2 of the Japan Auto drift series. We
scoped out the first part of a 2 part
series on how to install an ECU; as well
as checking out how to wrap a car. If
you missed this issue; get one quick! |

We featured the Golf’s of Daniel and
Dean Moonsamy. These brothers built up
some naturally aspirated terrors to pick
on a few of the top street dominators;
and with a few Subaru beatings under
their belts; you can be assured that
their Golf MK1’s mean business. Thomas
Falkiner showed us his track-bred 1965
Ford Mustang; in which he is quickly
becoming one of the fastest track racers
in the Historics class today. Hailing
from Mozambique; we had a look at Imtiaz
Dal’s uber-hot Nissan Silvia S15 drift
demon; while the sound section is
dominated by Salim Carrim’s VW Polo
filled with Reference Audio; and Shawn
Lutchman’s VW Beetle which features a
full Vibe install; not to mention the
ostrich leather interior! We scoped out
Mel Spurr in the Women’s section; the
lady behind the Superhatch series; and
the lady behind the wheel of a top notch
Opel Corsa track car, and an Audi TT
space-frame track terrorist. The celeb
spot for this month was filled by
Maurice Paige; or Calvin Xavier as he is
more commonly known as on the SABC 3
show; Isidingo. Have a look at what
makes his actor and hip hop artist tick.
We covered the top events such as this
year’s Castrol Xtreme Auto Show; a show
where some of the country’s top rides
were on display; as well as the fact
that we here at MMR won the 1st
prize for the best stand at the show. We
pulled through to ODI to check out what
times the ST boys and girls posted at
their King of ¼ Mile event. The sound
guys were treated to two awesome events
this month; one being the world record
shattering IASCA event at the Randshow;
while the other is the Nitrocrew Record
event which was held at Stoneridge mall
on the East Rand. Lastly; we pulled into
Mayhem Raceway in Pretoria to check out
the new spinning contests which are
hosted by Engine Imports. On the
technical side of things; we finished
off our fitment of the Spitronics ECU;
while on the RC side of things, we
checked out how to build a prop for your
RC cars; as well as checking a bit of
event coverage from the stand the RC
boys had at the Castrol Xtreme Auto
Show. |
